Functions

The major functions of the Cooperative assigned by Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as per Rules of Business 1985 Amended in 2022 are:

1. Cooperative Societies and Banks
2. Economic Planning and Coordination with regard to cooperatives societies
3. Procurement, storage and distribution of seeds and fertilizers.
4. Installation of tube wells and pumping sets.
5. Supply of Agricultural machinery
6. Marketing of Agricultural products.
7. Organization of housing cooperative societies
8. Consumers Cooperative Stores
9. Cooperative Education and publicity through Sarhad Cooperative Union.
10. Provision of Agricultural supplies and other essential commodities.
11. Women Handicraft Marketing Cooperatives.

In addition to the above cooperative undertake the following activities

1. Propagation & expansion of the Cooperative movement in the province.
2. Motivate organize and register communities as different Cooperative Societies, like Resource, Producers, Consumers, Housing & General societies.
3. Improve the socio-economic condition of the masses by inculcating amongst them the habits of thrift, self-help, self-reliance, self-management & mutual aid.
4. Help increase the production by giving farmers loans through Cooperatives Bank at low mark-up rate.
5. Help women in establishing their small entrepreneurs.
6. Help masses to have sustainable cooperative housing societies.
7. Building up capacities of office bearers of Cooperative Societies, to enable them to manage/supervise their societies effectively and to ensure their sustainability.
8. Regulate overall functions of the Cooperative Societies, by conducting audits, Inspections, enquiries, arbitrations, recoveries of fee, fines, penalties, loans & assessed damages, under the Cooperative Societies Act and the Rules.
9. Take appropriate measures for protection & safety of assets of the societies, interest of members and others.
10. Provide a legitimate platform to the members of societies, for amicable settlement of their disputes.
11. Ensure implementation of the Cooperative Societies Act & Rules.
12. Wind up the affairs of the defaulted societies, settle their accounts & cancel their registration.
13. Undertake other function (s), assigned by the Govt;/competent authority.
