Swabi District

 

Swabi District is a district in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It lies between the Indus and Kabul rivers. Mostly people of the district belong to Mandanr Yousafzai clan of Pashtons.

District Name: Swabi

Area: 1543 km2 (595.8 sqmi)

Population: 1826804 (2005 A,D)

Number of Tehsils: 4 (Swabi, Lahore, Topi and Rajar)

Number of Union Councils: 56

Main Clans: Mandanr Yousafzai are in majority. Others include Jadoon/ Gadoon, Razar, Utman and Khatak. Majority people speak pushto language.

Office of the Assistant Registrar/ District Officer Cooperative Societies Swabi is situated on Jehangiri road at District Secretariat Shah Mansoor, district Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. Shah Mansoor is near to Swabi city (nearly 5 kms) and is situated at distance of 50 kilo meters from Mardan city, eastward.

 

Main Crops and Vegetables.

 

Tobacco is cash crop of Swabi, along with vegetables, wheat, sugar cane and maize. In fruits, watermelon, peaches and apricots are grown there.

 

Short Introduction.

 

Cooperative Department is one of the few oldest departments in district Swabi (formerly a part/ tehsil of district Mardan) which has started its functioning after Pakistan came into being. Cooperative Movement has been accepted world wide as a very successful system for economic development especially under developed areas with meager resources.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To improve economic as well as social condition of people through

organization of cooperative societies.

  1. To promote the spirit and practice of thrift.
  2. To encourage thrift, self help and mutual aid amongst the agriculturists and   persons of limited means which may result in better living.

 FUNCTIONS

  1.  Motivation of people for cooperative movement.
  2. To facilitate the formation and work of cooperative societies for the promotion of thrift, self help and mutual aid amongst the agriculturists and other segments of the society with common needs, goals and objectives so as to bring about better living and better methods of production.
  3. Registration of cooperative societies.
  4. Audit, Inspection and general supervision of cooperative societies.
  5. Provision of credit facilities to cooperative societies. (suspended presently)
  6. Assistance in business and transactions of cooperative societies.
  7. Recovery of cooperative dues.
  8. To decide Arbitration cases under the Cooperative Societies Act 1925.
  9. Implementation of cooperative societies Act 1925 and Rules 1927.
  10. To supersede/takeover the affairs of Cooperative Societies in case of their

 failure/mismanagement.

  1. To liquidate and cancel registration of dormant Cooperative Societies.

What is a cooperative society; When a group of persons, economically weak are actuated by a desire to strengthen their position and improve their economic condition, and for that purpose get together voluntarily and act in some economic processes, be it production, distribution, exchange or consumption and divide the profits arising from their joint efforts in an equitable manner, they are said to co-operate and the association so formed is said to be a co-operative society.
